2013 Winners
After weeks of voting, the results are in for the most romantic places in Roxbury. Once again, we covered a wide range of venues and activities, from eating and shopping to the arts and transportation. Some of last year's winners were voted tops in their class again, with votes in one category producing our first tie! Did your favorite place make the cut? Or will you have some place new to visit this year?

Highland ParkGreen space:
Highland Park
*new winner*

We won't ask whether you and your sweetheart met by accident during an evening stroll or whether your blankets touched during the annual Jazz at the Fort concert. Either way, with its quiet serenity, views of Boston, and a unique fairy tale-like building, it's hard not to be charmed by (and charming in) Highland Park.

Eternal Presence and NCAAAHistoric/cultural venue (small):
National Center of Afro-American Artists

Link arms and walk down the corridors of the National Center of Afro-American Artists allowing the visual stimulation to entice you both this Valentine’s Day. Let the artifacts saturate your mind and then quiz each other on the work of world-renowned artists from ancient Nubia to present day.

Historic/cultural venue (large):
Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum

Gardner Museum

An afternoon or evening in the Gardner, stepping into Boston's own magic garden, casts a spell. With its glass-enclosed Calderwood Theater performance space included, the Gardner is definitely one of the hottest tickets in town. Whether seated in the new first floor "Living Room" or wandering through the original palace, time spent with your sweetie in the Gardner conjures up love.

Dudley SquareMain Street Shopping District:
Dudley Square

Just as Roxbury is at the heart of Boston, Dudley Square is the commercial heart of Roxbury. This historic area has been drawing people by the thousands for generations. Whether young or old, bring your sweetheart to shop, eat and reminisce about the history of "down Dudley."

altMBTA service in Roxbury:
Orange Line

The Orange Line continues to be voted as the transit line where our readers find romance. Long subway rides are perfect for cuddling with a loved one. Or, maybe you met your sweetie when he or she moved so you could sit down. Perhaps, best of all, if you haven't found romance at any of the other locations mentioned, the train will whisk you to new places and opportunities to meet and mingle with others.

View of Downtown:
altRoxbury Heritage State Park

With the city skyline as a backdrop, what couple gazing upon the site wouldn't make big plans? The architecture demands it, as does being in the literal heart of Boston! If you're looking for an inspiring backdrop to pop the question, visit the grounds of the Roxbury Heritage State Park, especially when the trees are in full bloom. Your feet will be planted atop Roxbury puddingstone, but you'll feel your hearts soar!

Food/music venue: *tie*
Darryl's Corner Bar, Wally's Cafe, Haley House Bakery CafeDarryl's Corner Bar & Kitchen, Wally's Cafe, and
Haley House Bakery Cafe

Thanks to a triad of Roxbury food and music venues that pluck the heartstrings, this year marks our first tie in this category. Wally's Cafe and Darryl's Corner Bar & Kitchen, neighbors in Lower Roxbury, and Haley House Bakery Cafe in Dudley Square, all topped the charts according to voters. Although there are plenty of reasons why each of these cozy establishments can claim to be Cupid's home in Roxbury, we're happy to know
that love is in the air across the neighborhood. Besides, good
things are said to come in threes.
