Add more color, texture, and richness to life with ArtROX!

Discover Roxbury's ArtROX! programming contains our year-long series of tours and events that highlight and promote the visual, performing, culinary, and literary arts in Roxbury. ArtROX! content is both generated by Discover Roxbury and done in partnership with local and citywide organizations, including museums, universities, civic groups, park advocates, Main Street districts, and the City of Boston.

CURRENT INITIATIVES

ArtROX! Hub

altThe ArtROX! Hub is funded in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council as a dedicated venue for art and culture programming and as a meet/work space for entrepreneurs at a conveniently located and highly visible street-level storefront in Dudley Square. The ArtROX! Hub’s 5000 square feet is a programmed collaboration between Discover Roxbury, Future Boston Alliance and Press Pass TV. The venue serves as a temporary response to Discover Roxbury’s 2014 No Space, No Art campaign, which began as a means of highlighting the plight of arts organizations across Boston that were being forced out of their rehearsal, exhibit, and organizing spaces in the face of increasing rents and gentrification. Not only did Discover Roxbury challenge the lack of organized response to this situation, it also put its’s money where it’s mouth is. The ArtROX! Hub is open to passersby interested in learning about arts and cultural events happening in and around Roxbury. It often hosts regularly scheduled workshops for artists and entrepreneurs, and hosts a retail shop that sells original arts and craft items produced locally.

The Creative Entrepreneur Fellowship (CEF) is a partnership between Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston (A&BC) and Discover Roxbury.
The Creative Entrepreneur Fellowship (CEF) is designed to create career momentum for a diverse group of artists and creative solopreneurs. The program includes personalized goal setting, one-on-one coaching, skills training seminars, a stipend ($750-$1000) for business-related purchases, and an opportunity to showcase work at a capstone event. The inaugural year of this fellowship was held in 2014-2015.

CEF is a customized professional development experience for 7-10 individuals selected through a competitive application process. The program kicks off in November and runs through June. Workshops will be held in Roxbury, as well as at the offices of the Arts & Business Council (A&BC) in Fort Point.

altDiscover Roxbury has worked with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (VLA) to provide legal services, advice, and educational programming to artists and arts administrators in Massachusetts.

International Artist Exchange
Discover Roxbury facilitated a cultural exchange with artists in Barcelona in September 2015. Barcelona, Spain's second largest city, is also one of Boston's sister cities and home to a dynamic arts scene with hundreds of contemporary artists living among the creations of masters like Gaudi and Picasso. The exchange included visits with local artists, municipal officials, technology innovators, and international cultural sites.
