Development Internship

The Development Intern will primarily work with Discover Roxbury’s partners, including the Roxbury Cultural Network. The intern will assist with the development and implementation of a volunteer program and fundraising efforts. This internship is an opportunity to help build and strengthen the organization.

Responsibilities:
Perform research and special projects related to Discover Roxbury’s community engagement strategy
Maintain communication with designated external community partners
Assist with developing a membership campaign
Assess Discover Roxbury’s evolving volunteer needs

Qualifications:
Background in communications, liberal arts, social sciences or business (with particular experience in or emphasis on organizational strategy/planning)
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Skilled in Microsoft Office software packages
Keen interest in community relationship building from a local and regional perspective
Ability to commit 10 to 15 hours per week

Ideal
Bi-lingual/multi-lingual
Graphics savvy
Advocacy writing experience
Familiarity with biking and walking in Roxbury
Familiarity and experience with Roxbury’s diverse neighborhoods and communities
Commitment to building a sustainable and more livable Roxbury

Marketing Internship

Discover Roxbury publicizes current and upcoming tours, educational programs, and special events through outreach to local and regional media. Interns will learn to function in the non-stop arena of marketing and public relations by performing various administrative duties which are vital to the operations Discover Roxbury’s promotions and marketing.

Responsibilities:
Distributing and filing printed news coverage
Updating online calendars
Assistance with writing press releases
Mailings to media outlets
Researching media contacts
Updating media database
Assisting with maintenance of Discover Roxbury's Facebook and Twitter accounts
Other tasks and duties as required

Job Requirements:
Public Relations/Communications majors preferred
Positive attitude
Strong organizational and communication skills
Keen attention to detail
Ability to work efficiently as part of a team and independently
Familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Flickr
Background in graphic design a plus

Hours: 10-15 hours per week. Some travel around Boston may be necessary.

Events & Community Programs Intern

Discover Roxbury is looking for an Events and Community Programs intern.

Responsibilities:
Initiate relationships with community partners (schools, businesses, non-profits, etc)
Visit and meet with community partners
Assist with outreach
Provide program assistance
Book venues for upcoming events

Qualifications:
Friendly and outgoing
Skilled in social media
Background in communications, liberal arts, or business (with particular experience in or emphasis on organizational strategy/planning)
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Skilled in Microsoft Office software packages
Keen interest in community relationship building from a local and regional perspective
