Bring the kids when you come for a visit. Our tours will keep them active and engaged, and there are plenty of activities to entertain and educate the whole family, from the arts to the zoo.

TRAVEL THROUGH TIME

Experience nearly 400 years of history though architecture. Colonial buildings, such as the Dillaway-Thomas House and the Shirley Eustis House, hint at early American life. After the Civil War they were joined by mansion estates, Victorian houses, and Queen Anne style buildings as Roxbury transitioned from a country town to a wealthy suburb. As the population grew, brownstones and triple-deckers were added to the mix. And that's just the housing! Churches, mosques, and synagogues also dot the landscape, along with assorted commercial and industrial buildings. Which one will be your favorite?

ART IS ALL AROUND

Art galleries, art exhibitions, and artist studios, murals, and sculptures inhabit every corner of the neighborhood. Visit the Museum of the National Center of Afro American Artists, Boston's only museum dedicated to the visual arts of the African diaspora. Don't miss July's Roxbury Film Festival or October's Roxbury Open Studios, two annual events organized by ACT Roxbury when the community showcases its artists and welcomes others from around the world.

GO GREEN

Roxbury is dotted with impressive parks, from the hilltops to hidden coves. Franklin Park sits at Roxbury's southern edge and contains bike and walking trails, a golf course, and the Franklin Park Zoo.

The Southwest Corridor Park and South Bay Harbor Trail are two linear parks with bike paths through or along green spaces and connect the heart of Roxbury with Jamaica Plain, the South End, and Boston Harbor.
