A Globe of Small Bites cooking class at Haley House

Spanish Tapas, Greek Mezes, and Chinese Dim Sum are examples of ways that people worldwide use innovative combinations of ingredients to create delicious small bites. A Globe of Small Bites cooking class teaches participants how to make a myriad of enticing appetizers for a soiree, with emphasis on making hors d'oeuvres that are fast, use minimal ingredients, and are easy to prepare. The menu reflects what was best available and in season.

Recalling the elegance of a bygone era, Discover Roxbury and Epicurean Studio hosted afternoon tea at the Shirley-Eustis House, a former colonial governor's mansion in the heart of Roxbury. The theme of our early summer tea was berries and the many ways they can be used in food and refreshing drinks. Guests - who were properly dressed in jackets for men and hats for ladies - were given a tour of the mansion and the grounds before enjoying a fresh repast.

In late summer just before the harvest, Discover Roxbury and Epicurean Studio partnered to produce Under the Roxbury Sun, a fresh, fabulous, 5-course meal at Garden Girl's Farm. Many of the vegetables, herbs, and spices were collected from gardens in the neighborhood, wine was generously donated by Boisset, and all dining equipment was provided by Be Our Guest. Diners were given a tour around the farm before dinner and the opportunity to create their own appetizers at interactive stations as the sun set. Dinner was served by candelight.

Heart of the Hub is a celebration and unique fundraising event that draws upon the strengths and assets of Roxbury! For three hours participants enjoy an evening of live music, dancing, and a silent auction featuring original art and interactive experiences. The annual highlight is A Taste of Roxbury dinner, which offers a selection of food from Roxbury restaurants and caterers. Participating eateries have included The Savant Project, That's Yummy, Haley House Bakery Cafe, Epicurean Studio, Merengue, Ethnica, and Shez Cakes. Tropical Foods also donated ingredients for caterers. Beverages were provided by Starbucks and Whole Foods.
